Basketball Recap: Cottondale Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

There's no place like home for Cottondale, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against the Sneads Pirates by a score of 53-41 on Friday. The Hornets pushed the score to 41-20 by the end of the third, a deficit the Pirates cut but never quite recovered from.

Cottondale's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron Odom, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 13 points in addition to six assists and four steals. Odom has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tramond Collins, who went 7 of 10 en route to 16 points and five boards.

Odom wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Cottondale was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sneads only racked up seven assists.

Sneads' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Michael Perkins, who posted 17 points along with seven rebounds and five assists, and Jamir Smith, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 15 points. The dominant performance gave Smith a new career-high in points. John Loftus was another key player, putting up a point and eight boards.

With the win, Cottondale broke their five-game losing streak and moved their record to 10-8. As for Sneads, they dropped their record down to 4-14 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cottondale will face off against Malone at 7:00 p.m. on January 24th. Cottondale is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58 points per game this season. As for Sneads, they will challenge Blountstown at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. Blountstown has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.
