Sparta suffers third straight loss on the road

The Sparta Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their sixth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 72-51 loss at the hands of West Salem. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Sparta has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Sparta still got an impressive performance from Gavin Rhead, who scored 14 points. Rhead set a new season high mark in blocks with two. Another player making a difference was Thomas Laufenberg, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds.
Sparta bumped their record down to 2-6 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. As for West Salem, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.
Sparta will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Melrose-Mindoro at 12:00 p.m. on December 28th. One thing working in Melrose-Mindoro's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matches. West Salem will finish 2023 at home by hosting Caledonia at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
