Baseball Recap: Shenandoah's Winning Streak Snapped at Eight Games

After flying high against Muncie Central on Thursday, Shenandoah came back down to earth. The Raiders fell just short of the Knightstown Panthers by a score of 6-5 on Saturday. The Raiders' loss signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.

Collin Osenbaugh was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.

Osenbaugh wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Drew Fredenburg, who went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Another was Jarrett Helman, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Shenandoah's defeat dropped their record down to 15-4. As for Knightstown, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-3 record this season.

Shenandoah will be playing in front of their home fans against Alexandria-Monroe at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Raiders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Knightstown, they are taking a road trip to face off against Southwestern at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Spartans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed seven runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
