Recap: Destin Sharks vs. Jay Royals
The Destin Sharks lost against the Jay Royals back in November of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Destin took a 44-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of Jay. Destin has struggled against Jay recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Destin lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Bryson Nixon, who scored 16 points along with two blocks. Another player making a difference was Traiton Mauffray, who scored ten points along with five rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jay to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mason Allen, who scored 16 points. Allen has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. Ethan Mcdonald was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two blocks.
Destin has been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-11 record this season. As for Jay, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-8.
Destin will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Calvary Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Florida (Calvary Christian Academy is ranked 407th, while Destin is ranked 385th). As for Jay, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Central at 7:30 p.m. on January 26th. Hopefully Central focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Thursday.
