Softball Preview: Trinity Pioneers vs. Bishop Brady Giants

The Trinity Pioneers will challenge the Bishop Brady Giants at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for Trinity: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Bishop Brady has snatched up four consecutive wins on the road.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Trinity turned things around against Newfound Regional on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Bears by a score of 8-3.

Emily Makris was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. In other batting news, Trinity got a massive performance out of Catie Bishop, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Bishop is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sophia Romano, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.

Trinity was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Bishop Brady hadn't beaten Hopkinton on the road since May 4, 2016 but that history sure didn't bother them on Wednesday. The Giants put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 8-2 victory. Abby Tyrrell made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Tyrrell was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Mundy, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Natalie Sherman was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.
