Baseball Game Preview: Stevenson Pirates vs. Everett Alvarez Eagles

Stevenson is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will venture away from home to take on the Everett Alvarez Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Stevenson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.5 runs per game this season.

Stevenson took a loss when they played away from home on March 4th, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They blew past King City 9-2. The victory continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won four in a row.

Phinn Thomas and Jacob Hall made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Thomas struck out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Hall pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Those ten strikeouts gave Thomas a new career-high. At bat, Thomas scored two runs and stole three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Hall scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base was Hall's first of the season.

In other batting news, Jack Bucich was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. Jonah Krasa also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Stevenson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as King City only managed four hits.

Meanwhile, Everett Alvarez fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against North Salinas on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 5-4. Eagles fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Vikings since on Saturday.

Everett Alvarez's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Stevenson, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Everything went Stevenson's way against Everett Alvarez in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Stevenson made off with a 10-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Stevenson since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
