Basketball Game Preview: Little Wound Mustangs vs. Pine Ridge Thorpes

The Little Wound Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Pine Ridge Thorpes at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Little Wound's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.

Little Wound is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Northwestern Area just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Saturday. They took a 73-68 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (57), the Mustangs still had to take the loss.

Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Pine Ridge on Saturday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Sioux Valley out of the water with a 63-34 final score. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Thorpes have posted since December 19, 2024.

The win was the third in a row for Pine Ridge, bringing their record for this year to 8-6. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.7 points per game. As for Little Wound, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.

Little Wound took a serious blow against Pine Ridge when the teams last played back in January of 2024, falling 85-42. Can Little Wound avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
