Football Game Preview: St. Joseph-by-the-Sea Vikings vs. Kellenberg Memorial Firebirds

St. Joseph-by-the-Sea is 0-3 against Kellenberg Memorial since October of 2017 but things could change on Saturday. The Vikings will be playing at home against the Firebirds at 7:00 p.m.

Things were looking good for St. Joseph-by-the-Sea after they put the first points on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 24-17 hit to the loss column at the hands of Archbishop Stepinac. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York football rankings (they are ranked 71st, while the Crusaders are ranked seventh).

Although St. Joseph-by-the-Sea took the loss, they still got scores from Moran Joseph and Yue Christian.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Kellenberg Memorial, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They snuck past St. John the Baptist with a 14-10 victory on Saturday. The win continues a trend for the Firebirds in their matchups with the Cougars: they've now won six in a row.

Kellenberg Memorial found their leader in sophomore Brendan Barkley, who rushed for 101 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

St. Joseph-by-the-Sea now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Kellenberg Memorial, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

St. Joseph-by-the-Sea suffered a grim 28-7 defeat to Kellenberg Memorial in their previous meeting back in September of 2023. Thankfully for the Vikings, Kenny Noe (who rushed for 96 yards and one score, and also threw for 108 yards and one TD) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
