Baseball Recap: Holy Cross Takes a Loss

Holy Cross had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 4-5 to make it four. They fell 7-2 to the Woodland Regional Hawks. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Crusaders couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Woodland Regional, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-11. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games.

For Woodland Regional's part, Jason Beaudry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on one hit and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Michael Landrigan was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Woodland Regional: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Erik Pulkkinen, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

While Holy Cross had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
