Aspen has gone 8-2 against Basalt recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Aspen Skiers will face off against the Basalt Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. Aspen is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 12 games.
Last Tuesday, Aspen was able to grind out a solid win over Delta, taking the game 67-59. Given the Skiers' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Panthers are ranked 175th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Aspen got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tommy Franceschi out in front who posted 18 points and five rebounds. Luke Balko was another key player, dropping a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards.
Meanwhile, Basalt beat Rifle 73-66 on Saturday. The Longhorns haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.
Basalt's win came from a few key players Aspen will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Luke Williams, who went 10-for-17 en route to 31 points. Those 31 points gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taylor Hays, who dropped a double-double with 20 points and ten rebounds.
Basalt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rifle only four offensive rebounds.
Aspen's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.7 points over those games. As for Basalt, their record now sits at 9-10.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Aspen has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 27.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Basalt struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28.5 rebounds. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Aspen strolled past Basalt in their previous meeting back in January by a score of 56-41. The rematch might be a little tougher for Aspen since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
