Plainville and Somers are an even 4-4 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Blue Devils will welcome the Spartans at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Plainville's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three contests, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Plainville is headed into the match having just suffered their biggest defeat since June 1, 2024 on Tuesday. They lost 7-0 to Southington.

Meanwhile, Somers made easy work of East Granby on Tuesday and carried off a 20-7 victory. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by six runs or more this season.

Josh Giupponi made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Andrew Czerwinski was a standout: he went 4-for-5 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Jack Olearcek was another key player, getting on base in four of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

Somers is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Plainville, their loss dropped their record down to 8-12.

Plainville was able to grind out a solid victory over Somers in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 6-1. Will the Blue Devils repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
