Softball Game Preview: George Washington Eagles vs. Science Leadership Academy Rockets

The George Washington Eagles will face off against the Science Leadership Academy Rockets at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

George Washington is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They put the hurt on Nueva Esperanza with a sharp 18-3 win. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with Nueva Esperanza: they've now won four in a row.

Meanwhile, Science Leadership Academy came tearing into Thursday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Railsplitters get on the board and left with a 13-0 win.

Karlee McDowell made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 15 over five innings pitched. Those 15 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, Science Leadership Academy let Abi Disston and Marisa Phan run wild. Disston went a perfect 3-for-3 with six stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Phan got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave Disston a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sofiya Kieselowsky, who went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Science Leadership Academy's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for George Washington, their victory bumped their record up to 10-3.
