Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Manti

Manti had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against the North Sanpete Hawks by a score of 9-5. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 10-4 victory last Tuesday.

Kellen Lund made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. He has become a key player for Manti: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-5 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Cherry, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3. He is becoming a predictor of Manti's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't).

Manti was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in seven consecutive contests.

The win got Manti back to even at 5-5. As for North Sanpete, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-6.

Looking ahead, Manti will face off against Canyon View at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Canyon View will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Manti surely won't give up without a fight. As for North Sanpete, they will take on Juab at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Juab's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so North Sanpete's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
