Basketball Recap: Emerson Takes a Loss

Emerson suffered their closest loss since January 21, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Mahwah Thunderbirds by a score of 44-41. While losing is never fun, the Cavaliers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Jersey basketball rankings (they are ranked 285th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 121st).

Emerson has also traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. Mahwah is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season.

Emerson and Mahwah are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Emerson will challenge New Milford on Wednesday. New Milford is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.8 points per game this season. As for Mahwah, they will square off against High Point on Thursday. High Point has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 196 points over their last three contests.
