Logan County is 8-2 against Todd County Central since May of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Rebels at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Logan County took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Jo Byrns, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cougars came out on top in a nail-biter against the Red Devils on Monday, sneaking past 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cougars have posted against the Red Devils since March 31, 2017.
Annie Owen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kalie Taylor, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Macie Clinard, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Todd County Central never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on Hopkinsville with a sharp 16-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Rebels, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Hopkinsville's batters probably weren't too happy with Olivia Weikel, who pitched a no hitter and racked up eight Ks (she gave up a single walk).
On the hitting side, Addison Woodall was a standout: she went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Isabelle Hightower also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Todd County Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .316 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Logan County's record is now 5-8. As for Todd County Central, the victory got them back to even at 8-8.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Logan County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .342. However, it's not like Todd County Central struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Logan County got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in March against Todd County Central by a conclusive 14-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
