Baseball Game Preview: Salesian Eagles vs. Moore Catholic Mavericks

The Salesian Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Moore Catholic Mavericks at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Salesian has given up an average of 9 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Salesian fell victim to Iona Prep and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 12-0 to the Gaels. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Moore Catholic got themselves on the board against Cardinal Hayes on Friday, but Cardinal Hayes never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Cardinals with a sharp 13-0 victory. The high-scoring effort was just what the Mavericks needed considering they were shut out in their previous match.

KENNY VAZQUEZ looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Moore Catholic is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-4-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on CHARLES ELLIS, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. He also brought in two RBI, marking his first of the season. ANTHONY DIGEROLAMO was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Moore Catholic pushed their record up to 4-5-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Salesian, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Salesian suffered a grim 14-5 defeat to Moore Catholic when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
