Baseball Recap: Newport Comes Up Short

Newport started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Christian School of York. They fell just short of the Defenders by a score of 5-4 on Friday. The Buffaloes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Defenders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2025.

Logan Bates spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Zachary Bates made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Jameson Cummins was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Newport's loss dropped their record down to 12-7. As for Christian School of York, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 17-4.

As of now, neither Newport nor the Defenders have any future games scheduled.
