Basketball Recap: Whittell Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Michael Lezama-Demazo and Rocky Laremore

Whittell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They came up short against the Sage Ridge Scorpions, falling 63-41. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Warriors of the 60-25 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Whittell had strong showings from Rocky Laremore, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards, and Michael Lezama-Demazo, who posted 15 points and six steals. Laremore has been hot for a while, having also posted three or more steals the last 13 times he's played.

Sage Ridge's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Sullins, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds and seven steals. Another player making a difference was Caleb Mulvaney, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards.

Whittell's loss dropped their record down to 3-9. As for Sage Ridge, the win got them back to even at 5-5.

Whittell didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-23 defeat against Pyramid Lake on the 21st. As for Sage Ridge, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 72-61 loss against Mineral County on the 18th.
