Basketball Recap: Archbishop Carroll Lions vs. St. Mary's Ryken Knights
The Archbishop Carroll Lions can now show off eight landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Thursday. They blew past St. Mary's Ryken 68-41 at home. With Archbishop Carroll ahead 46-19 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
Archbishop Carroll was led to victory by Tiayo Adelekan and Heidi Williams. Adelekan scored 14 points along with seven rebounds, while Williams scored 17 points along with six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Nyair McCoy, who scored six points along with six assists and two steals.
Despite the loss, St. Mary's Ryken saw an underclassman step up: Zahria Higginbotham scored 25 points. Another player making a difference was Olu Enajekpo, who scored six points.
The win makes it two in a row for Archbishop Carroll and bumps their season record up to 15-5. As for St. Mary's Ryken, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-10.
Archbishop Carroll will head out on the road to face off against the Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in their respective states (Shabach Christian Academy is ranked ninth in Maryland, while the Lions are ranked tenth in District of Columbia). As for St. Mary's Ryken, they will face off against the Scorpions at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Oakland Mills is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road.
