Softball Recap: Arielle Rich Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Byron

Genoa-Kingston and Byron pushed the score to 14-7 the last time they played Byron, but on Wednesday defenses reigned supreme. The Cogs never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory. This was a revenge game for the Cogs: when they faced off against the Tigers last Saturday, they had to take a 14-7 defeat.

The result came thanks to Elizabeth Davis's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Genoa-Kingston saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Arielle Rich, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Genoa-Kingston's win bumped their record up to 10-14-1. As for Byron, they dropped their record down to 5-12 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Genoa-Kingston will face off against DeKalb at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Byron, they will challenge Stillman Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cardinals will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight.
