Basketball Recap: Mendenhall Takes a Loss

Mendenhall lost against Morton back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The game between the Mendenhall Tigers and the Morton Panthers didn't end well, with the Mendenhall Tigers falling 55-36. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 121st, while the Panthers are ranked 25th).

Morton's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mariona Boyd led the charge by going 7 of 14 on her way to 17 points. Another player making a difference was Charity Beemon, who posted 11 points along with five boards and three steals.

Mendenhall's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Morton, their victory was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mendenhall has already played their next contest (against Northeast Jones), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Morton will square off against Quitman at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Quitman will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Morton surely won't give up without a fight.
