Basketball Game Preview: Ely Timberwolves vs. Mesabi East Giants

The Ely Timberwolves will head out to take on the Mesabi East Giants at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Ely is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.

Last Thursday, Ely came up short against Floodwood and fell 59-51.

Meanwhile, Mesabi East strolled past Deer River with points to spare on Monday, taking the game 73-57.

Mesabi East is also on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.6 points per game. As for Ely, their loss dropped their record down to 10-7.

Ely and Mesabi East were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, but Ely came up empty-handed after a 53-52 defeat. Can Ely avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
