Recap: Crossroad Academy Scorpions vs. Florida State University High School Seminoles
After a string of four wins, the Crossroad Academy Scorpions's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They suffered a rough 81-56 defeat at the hands of Florida State University High School. Despite running the score up even higher than they did on Wednesday (55), Crossroad Academy still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Crossroad Academy saw an underclassman step up: Tyrek Jessie scored 12 points along with four steals. Jessie has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ja'Mari Favors, who scored ten points.
Even though they lost, Crossroad Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Florida State University High School only racked up 27 assists.
Florida State University High School's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dakota Morris led the charge by scoring 15 points. The matchup was Morris' fourth in a row with at least ten points. Terrell "TJ" Baker was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten assists.
Crossroad Academy's loss dropped their record down to 9-5. As for Florida State University High School, their win bumped their record up to 9-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Crossroad Academy will take on Marianna at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Marianna presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Crossroad Academy in Florida (Marianna is ranked 72nd, while Crossroad Academy is ranked 237th). Florida State University High School won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Gulf Breeze at 5:00 p.m. on January 6th.
