Baseball Recap: Clay Finds Home Field Redemption Against Suncoast

There's no place like home for Clay, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Suncoast Chargers on Friday.

Clay got a great performance from Gabriel Barker as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave Barker a new career-high.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Merrick Rapoza, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. LJ Martin was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base.

Clay hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Suncoast struck out nine times.

Clay pushed their record up to 13-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Suncoast, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-9.

Looking ahead, Clay will challenge Bishop Snyder at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Clay 3.4, Bishop Snyder 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Suncoast, they will take on Jensen Beach at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
