Recap: Independence vs. Lightridge Bolts
After flying high against the Unity Reed Lions on Friday, Independence came back down to earth. Independence took a 53-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lightridge. Independence was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Lightridge apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.
When it comes to explaining why Independence lost on Saturday, one person who can't be blamed is Grant Kunkle. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points. The contest was Kunkle's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Akash Udandrao, who scored nine points.
Independence's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Lightridge, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Independence and Woodgrove will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Woodgrove has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Lightridge and Loudoun Valley will face off at 7:15 p.m. on January 2nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Loudoun Valley presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lightridge in Virginia (Loudoun Valley is ranked 51st, while Lightridge is ranked 269th).
