Baseball Recap: Saugus Beats Winthrop for Their Second Straight Win

Saugus made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Winthrop, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Sachems never let the Vikings get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Friday. The Sachems were shut out 8-0 the last time they took on the Vikings, so the Sachems were just returning the favor.

Brayden Crawford was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Crawford was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cam Soroko, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Cam Bernard, who scored a run while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.

Saugus has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.0 runs this season. As for Winthrop, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Saugus will square off against Swampscott at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday. As for Winthrop, they will challenge Essex North Shore Agric & Tech School at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
