Basketball Game Preview: Nogales Apaches vs. Pueblo Warriors

The Nogales Apaches will face off against the Pueblo Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Nogales is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Buena on Thursday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Nogales had to suffer through a 72-42 loss at the hands of Buena. The Apaches have struggled against the Colts recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, Nogales saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gael Martinez went 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points and five boards. Tito Fierros was another key player, putting up seven points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Pueblo took a blow against Cienega on Monday, falling 78-50. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 230th, while the Bobcats are ranked 47th).

Pueblo's defeat dropped their record down to 7-15. As for Nogales, their loss dropped their record down to 6-12.

Nogales took their victory against Pueblo when the teams last played back in November of 2018 by a conclusive 73-51. Does Nogales have another victory up their sleeve, or will Pueblo turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
