No. 9 Bishop Gorman travels to Florida, beats No. 24 Miami Central 21-20 at Battle at The Beach showcase.

The biggest high school football game of the weekend lived up to the hype as No. 9 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) beat No. 24 Miami Central (Fla.) 21-20 at the Battle at The Beach showcase in Naples (Fla.). The Rockets had a game-winning 35-yard field goal attempt go off the crossbar and the Las Vegas power improved to 2-0 on the season.

Sophomore quarterback Micah Alejado finished the night with three total touchdowns and threw an absolute dime to what turned out to be the game-winning score on a 37-yard TD pass to junior Zachariah Branch. That gave the Gaels a 21-20 lead with 3:48 remaining. Branch hauled in six receptions for 111 yards and two scores.

Jesuit (Tampa) pulled off a huge upset taking down No. 6 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) 24-21 in a game that was put together on Wednesday. After the Raiders took a 21-17 lead early in the fourth quarter the Tigers responded and Luke Knight found Jaydn Girard for the game-winning score with :09 remaining. The Raiders had one last chance at Jesuit's 40-yard line but Zion Turner's pass sailed out of bounds.

Expect to see the Tigers jump in the MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings on Monday.

Guyer (Denton, Texas) snapped No. 21 Ryan's (Denton) 16-game winning streak with a 14-7 overtime victory. Junior quarterback Jackson Arnold threw for nearly 200 yards and two scores including the game-winning 29-yard touchdown pass to Sutton Lee in overtime. The defense made big-time plays and did not allow a point in the second half after trailing 7-0 at halftime.

Cade Klubnik and No. 4 Westlake (Austin, Texas) won their 26th consecutive game after beating Trinity (Euless) 34-14. The future Clemson quarterback accounted for three touchdowns and up next for the back-to-back state champs is Mansfield Summit (Mansfield) on Sept. 10.

No. 2 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) traveled to Ohio for the second straight week and rolled to a 58-7 win over La Salle (Cincinnati) on Friday. Through two games the Ascenders have outscored the opposition 116-7.
