Baseball Recap: Holy Cross Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

Holy Cross's game on Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Old Forge Blue Devils. The win was some much needed relief for the Crusaders as it spelled an end to their eight-game losing streak.

Kyle Cortazar spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Holy Cross let AJ Piestrak and Freddy Ceccacci run wild. Piestrak got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run, while Ceccacci went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Holy Cross is undefeated when Ceccacci posts two or more runs, but 1-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Matthew Fox, who went 1-for-2 with two runs.

Holy Cross hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Old Forge struck out seven times.

Holy Cross' victory bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Old Forge, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.

Coming up, Holy Cross will challenge Western Wayne at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Crusaders are facing the Wildcats at the right time seeing as the Wildcats are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Old Forge, they will be playing at home against Honesdale at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.69 runs per game on average), something the Blue Devils will no doubt try to take advantage of.
