Monacan hasn't had much luck against Powhatan recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Chiefs will face off against the Indians at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Monday, Monacan got the win against J.R. Tucker by a conclusive 12-2. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Chiefs' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Katelyn Marshall was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Gee, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Monacan kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Powhatan posted their closest win since March 27th on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Clover Hill 4-3. The win was familiar territory for the Indians, who have now won three matchups in a row.
Brooklyn Narbut spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ava Harper, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Megan Gobble also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Monacan's record now sits at 4-12. As for Powhatan, their record is now 11-7.
Monacan might still be hurting after the 9-1 defeat they got from Powhatan when the teams last played back in April. Can the Chiefs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
