Basketball Game Preview: Swansboro Pirates vs. Pamlico County Hurricanes

The Swansboro Pirates will take on the Pamlico County Hurricanes in a holiday battle at at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Swansboro will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.

On Tuesday, Swansboro needed a bit of extra time to put away Jacksonville. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cardinals, sneaking past 53-50. While the Pirates didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Meanwhile, Pamlico County didn't have too much trouble with Washington County on Thursday as they won 55-40.

Pamlico County found their leader in sophomore Sydney Whitley-Reese, who almost dropped a triple-double on 30 points, ten boards, and nine steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Whitley-Reese has scored at least a third of Pamlico County's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyliyah Barber, who posted four points along with nine steals and five boards.

Pamlico County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Swansboro's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Pamlico County, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.

Swansboro might still be hurting after the 56-32 loss they got from Pamlico County in their previous meeting back in November. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Whitley-Reese, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine boards.
