Football Recap: Veterans Memorial Find Success

Veterans Memorial is still undefeated this season after their matchup against Alexander on Friday, but Alexander came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Chargers had just enough and edged out the Bulldogs 20-17. For the Chargers, this counts as revenge for the 45-42 victory the Bulldogs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

Cesar Belmontes continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 212 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Those 212 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Calvin Trevillion helped out on the ground, rushing for 91 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Veterans Memorial was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 401 rushing yards. They rushed for 195 more rushing yards than Alexander's also-impressive total of 206.

Alexander's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Gael Rubio, who rushed for 123 yards and one TD, and Javi Trejo, who rushed for 93 yards and one score on only ten carries.

Veterans Memorial's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Alexander, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Veterans Memorial didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 48-7 victory against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo on the 26th. As for Alexander, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 23-16 win against United South on the 26th.
