Football Recap: Clemens Falls Despite Big Games from Trey Burton and Carter Mencke

Clemens extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 2-5. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 24-20 heartbreaker at the hands of the Canyon Cougars. The Buffaloes were not able to make up for their loss to the Cougars from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

Clemens' defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Carter Mencke, who rushed for 36 yards and one score, and Trey Burton, who picked up 78 receiving yards and one TD. Gavin Townsend helped out on the ground, rushing for 82 yards.

As for Canyon, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-2. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 31.0 points over those games.

Leading Canyon to victory were Jackson Regan and Knox Ford. Regan rushed for 158 yards and one touchdown on only 15 carries, while Ford rushed for 51 yards and a pair of TDs. That's the most rushing yards Regan has posted since back in November of 2024.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Clemens will face off against rival Johnson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Canyon is set to challenge their familiar foe East Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
