Basketball Recap: Academy of Holy Angels Comes Up Short

Academy of Holy Angels was the 76-62 winner over Richfield when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Academy of Holy Angels Stars fell 71-59 to the Richfield Spartans on Saturday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (57), the Stars still had to take the loss.

Aniiya Johnson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Richfield, going 9 of 17 on her way to 26 points. What's more, Johnson also racked up four assists, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Desirai Chappell was another key player, going 7 for 13 en route to 18 points along with six assists and six rebounds.

Academy of Holy Angels has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-5 record this season. As for Richfield, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.

Academy of Holy Angels and Richfield should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings. Academy of Holy Angels will face off against Fridley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 117 places (93 vs. 210). Similarly, Richfield (ranked 54th) will meet Robbinsdale Cooper (ranked 280th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
