Volleyball Recap: Gilbert Comes Up Short

Gilbert lost against Northwestern Regional back in October of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Yellowjackets fell 3-1 to the Highlanders. The Yellowjackets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Gilbert started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-13, 25-15, 25-15.

Sophie Stanulis was the offensive standout of the match as she had ten digs and three aces. Those ten digs gave her a new career-high. Grace Stimson also deserves some recognition as she had her first blocks of the season.

Gilbert's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Northwestern Regional, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-2.

Looking ahead, Northwestern Regional will challenge Lewis Mills at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Gilbert will be paying especially close attention to the Highlanders' game: after the Highlanders face off against Granby Memorial, they'll take on Gilbert again at 5:15 p.m. on October 24.
