Basketball Game Preview: Upsala Cardinals vs. Browerville Tigers

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Upsala Cardinals take on the Browerville Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday... The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Upsala has five straight victories, Browerville has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Friday, in a tight matchup that could have gone either way, Upsala made off with a 42-41 win over Braham. The Cardinals' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Upsala's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Dakota Soltis led the charge by putting up 15 points. Soltis' evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Zoey Leners was another key player, posting seven points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, Browerville had to suffer through a 64-24 loss at the hands of Walker-Hackensack-Akeley. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 371st, while the Wolves are ranked 100th).

Upsala's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-3. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Browerville, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.

Everything came up roses for Upsala against Browerville when the teams last played back in January of 2024, as the squad secured a 76-42 win. Will Upsala repeat their success, or does Browerville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
