Football Game Preview: Wesclin Warriors vs. Red Bud Musketeers

The Wesclin Warriors will head out on the road to square off against the Red Bud Musketeers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Red Bud took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Wesclin, who comes in off a win.

Wesclin took a loss when they played away from home last Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 48-30 win over Sparta/Steeleville. The Warriors' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

William Waggoner was his usual excellent self, rushing for 199 yards and four scores while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 105.5 rushing yards per game. Another player making a difference was Cael Madden, who rushed for 89 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only seven carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Wesclin was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 318 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

Another reason for the win was Wesclin's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Sparta/Steeleville's QB won't forget Nicholas Hutcheson anytime soon given he sacked him three times.

Meanwhile, Red Bud played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Dupo and fell 56-14. The Musketeers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-7.

Red Bud's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Wesclin, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-4.

Wesclin didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Red Bud in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 28-22 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
