Basketball Game Preview: Lubbock Westerners vs. Palo Duro Dons

Lubbock is 0-6 against Palo Duro since February of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Lubbock Westerners will look to defend their home court against the Palo Duro Dons at 5:30 p.m.

Lubbock is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were beaten by Lubbock-Cooper 74-46. While losing is never fun, the Westerners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 730th, while the Pirates are ranked 193rd).

Meanwhile, Palo Duro had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.2 points) and they went ahead and made it seven on Tuesday. They walked away with a 63-55 victory over the Longhorns.

Palo Duro's win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points per game. As for Lubbock, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.

Lubbock was dealt a bruising 74-29 defeat at the hands of Palo Duro in their previous meeting back in February of 2020. Can Lubbock avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
