Baseball Recap: Bentley Gets the Win

Bentley won the last time they faced Cornerstone Christian and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Phoenix came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 9-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Phoenix.

Miles Makie was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off 12 hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with six stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Bentley's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 3-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Braden Owen was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and three runs. Bentley is 3-1 when Owen posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise. Cooper Rachuba also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

The victory got Bentley back to even at 5-5. As for Cornerstone Christian, their defeat was their eighth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Cougars beat Bentley by a score of 14-4 on Friday.
