Baseball Recap: Goddard Now 4-1 over Last Five Games

Goddard's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top against the Rio Rancho Rams by a score of 7-3. This was payback for the Rockets, who suffered a 4-1 loss the last time these two teams met.

Carmelo Ortega tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits.

At the plate, Goddard's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Airell Aguilar, who scored a run while going 1-for-4. Nathan Herrera also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Goddard is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. Rio Rancho's defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-4.

Looking ahead, Goddard will be taking part in a tournament against Carlsbad at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Carlsbad will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Goddard surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rio Rancho, they will welcome Farmington at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
