Basketball Recap: Somerset Prep Snags Fifth Victory in Last Six Games

Somerset Prep extended their home winning streak to three games thanks to a huge performance from Gabrielle King. Somerset Prep walked away with a 70-60 victory over the Centennial Eagles on Monday thanks in part to King, who made all 11 shots she took racking up 27 points in addition to six boards and three steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Chardae Rumph, who made all 7 shots she took for 17 points and five assists. The matchup was her fourth in a row with at least ten points.

Centennial lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Waniya Fortner, who posted 19 points. Jailyn Williams was another key player, dropping a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds.

Somerset Prep is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.8 points per game. As for Centennial, the loss snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 13-8 record.

Somerset Prep will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Chaminade-Madonna at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. Chaminade-Madonna will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Somerset Prep surely won't give up without a fight. As for Centennial, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-61 victory against Palm Beach Gardens on the 29th.
