Baseball Recap: Thursday's Victory Is Sarasota's 12th in Last 13 Outings

Sarasota never got on the board in their matchup last Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against South Fort Myers on Thursday. They blew past the Wolfpack 13-3. The result was nothing new for the Sailors, who have now won nine matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Hamlet Perez tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Mark Metcalf was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kole Ayrault, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Sarasota always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Fort Myers only posted an OBP of .261.

Sarasota is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for South Fort Myers, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Sarasota wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 1-0 win against Bartow on the 4th. As for South Fort Myers, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 4-3 victory against East Lee County on the 4th.
