Football Recap: Burke County Gets the Win + How To Watch

Burke County extended their postseason success on Friday against Rockmart. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 41-40 victory over the Yellowjackets. Things were looking grim for the Bears in the second quarter (they were down by 20) but they stormed back to get the contest.

It was another big night for Sean Vandiver, who rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 221 yards and three TDs while picking up 11.1 yards per attempt. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. Burke County's leading receiver Will Joyner was Vandiver's top target yet again, picking up 56 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Burke County was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 223 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 159 rushing yards in ten consecutive matchups.

Despite the loss, Rockmart still got an impressive performance from Nate Davis, who rushed for 250 yards and four TDs while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Davis' rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his ninth straight game with at least 116 rushing yards. Aa'Darian Samples was another key player, picking up 87 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Burke County's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.3 points over those games. As for Rockmart, the loss snapped their winning streak at ten games and leaves them with a 11-2 record.

Burke County has already played their next game, a 33-14 defeat against Carver on the 5th. Rockmart does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
