Softball Game Preview: Lowcountry Leadership NaviGators vs. Branchville Yellow Jackets

The Lowcountry Leadership NaviGators will venture away from home to face off against the Branchville Yellow Jackets at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Lowcountry Leadership had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt First Baptist School on Monday. The NaviGators put the hurt on the Hurricanes with a sharp 17-7 win. The victory was familiar territory for the NaviGators, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Harley Winn made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Becky Gaskins and Bailee Blome did most of the damage at the plate: Gaskins went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Blome got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run and six RBI. Blome has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aven Biehl, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four runs and one stolen base.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Branchville). Everything went their way against Andrew Jackson Academy on Monday as they made off with a 20-5 win. The victory continues a trend for the Yellow Jackets in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now won four in a row.

Lowcountry Leadership's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Branchville, their record is now 6-4.

Lowcountry Leadership suffered a grim 12-0 defeat to Branchville in their previous meeting back in May of 2021. Can the NaviGators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
