Football Recap: Portage Mustangs vs. West Shamokin Wolves
Portage took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They came out on top against the West Shamokin Wolves by a score of 18-7. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Wolves recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Portage to victory, but perhaps none more so than Easton Slanoc, who threw for 151 yards and three TDs on only 12 passes, and also rushed for 60 yards. Those three passing touchdowns gave Slanoc a new career-high. Llheson Walker was another key rusher, gaining 85 total yards and a touchdown.
Portage didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Dominic Berardinelli and Walker.
Despite the defeat, West Shamokin saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cole Wingard rushed for 109 yards and one score on only 14 carries. Wingard's longest rush was for an impressive 68 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
Portage has already played their next contest, a 42-20 loss against Marion Center on the 29th. As for West Shamokin, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 34-0 defeat against Conemaugh Township on the 29th.
