Softball Recap: Thursday's Defeat Ends Bolivar Central's Winning Streak

Bolivar Central dropped their record down to 7-3 on Thursday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Haywood Tomcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tomcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-2 last Monday.

Marissa Overton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played.

As for Haywood, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games.

On Haywood's side, Lillian Scott made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Scott was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Averie Parnell, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Kaitlyn Smoot was another key player, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

Looking ahead, Bolivar Central will take on Jackson North Side at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Tigers are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Haywood, they will face off against Madison at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
