Softball Recap: Berkeley Prep's Luck Changes for the Better on Friday

While Berkeley Prep put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Wellington. The Buccaneers came out on top against the Wolverines by a score of 4-0. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Buccaneers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Avery Powers made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Paige Quinn and Olivia Malin did most of the damage at the plate: Quinn scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Malin went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two hits gave Malin a new career-high.

Berkeley Prep's record now sits at 9-5. As for Wellington, they moved to 12-3 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Berkeley Prep will challenge River Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Royal Knights' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Buccaneers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Wellington, they will face off against South Fork at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
