Preview: Gruver Greyhounds vs. Shamrock Irish
Gruver is 8-1 against Shamrock since November of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Gruver Greyhounds will be playing at home against the Shamrock Irish at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Gruver came tearing into last Thursday's match with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.8 points) and they left with even more momentum. They claimed a resounding 68-12 victory over Boys Ranch at home. Considering Gruver has won five matches by more than 19 points this season, last Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Gruver can attribute much of their success to Pratt McLain, who rushed for 108 yards and two touchdowns, and Briggs Satterfield, who threw for 188 yards and four touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes. McLain was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 60 yards.
Meanwhile, Shamrock blew past Memphis, posting a 44-2 win at home. The victory was just what Shamrock needed coming off of a 58-6 loss in their prior match.
Terry Menefield and Philip Cook were among the main playmakers for Shamrock as the former picked up 154 receiving yards and three touchdowns and the latter threw for 266 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 13.3 yards per attempt. Braxton Allen was in the mix too, providing Shamrock with two touchdowns.
Gruver is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-2 record this season. As for Shamrock, their victory bumped their record up to 5-5.
Gruver took their victory against Shamrock in their previous meeting back in November of 2021 by a conclusive 63-40. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Shamrock's Sean Wright, who rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns, and also picked up 40 receiving yards. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Gruver to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
