Softball Game Preview: St. Henry Crusaders vs. Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds

The St. Henry Crusaders will head out on the road to square off against the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: St. Henry has struggled recently with seven losses in a row, while Newport Central Catholic will arrive with three straight victories.

St. Henry lost 25-8 to Beechwood on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Newport Central Catholic won against Dayton last Wednesday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Thoroughbreds were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over Holmes. Considering the Thoroughbreds have won five matches by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Newport Central Catholic's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for St. Henry, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.

St. Henry suffered a grim 16-1 defeat to Newport Central Catholic in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can the Crusaders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
