Softball Recap: Lakota West Takes a Loss

Saturday just wasn't the day for Lakota West's offense. They fell 4-0 to the Mason Comets on Saturday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Comets this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 back in April.

Lakota West got a good showing from Ava Gilbert, who struck out seven batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Gilbert has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lakota West saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Paige Kopp, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

This is the second loss in a row for Lakota West and nudges their season record down to 11-8. As for Mason, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-2.

Coming up, Lakota West will face off against Colerain at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mason does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
